The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, UVAS Sports
Directorate organised 20 th Annual Sports Day in its City Campus Sports Ground.
Secretary Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab Muhammad Masoud Anwar along with
UVAS Chairman Sports Board Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz inaugurated sports contests in the morning.
Former Hockey Player & Olympian/Gold Medalist Prof Dr Tariq Aziz Khawaja was the chief guest at the
prize distribution ceremony while Former Captain of Pakistan Hockey Team/Olympian Mr Shahbaz
Ahmed Senior and Former UVAS Vice-Chancellor/Emeritus Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad were the guests of
honor in the evening. Former Hockey Olympian Khawaja Junaid, Secretary Livestock Muhammad
Masoud Anwar, Principal KBCMA-CVAS Narowal Prof Dr Muhammad Younus Rana, Chairman
Department of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf and Director General Sports Higher Education
Commission Javed Ali Memon were also present on the occasion.
Students from all campuses included the City Campus Lahore, Ravi Campus Pattoki, College of
Veterinary and Animal Sciences Jhang and Khan Bahadar Choudhry Mushtaq Ahmed College of
Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Narowal participated in sports fixtures which continued till late evening.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Secretary Livestock Muhammad Masoud Anwar promised to provide
Rs 200 million from Livestock Department resources to establish a squash court and astro turf for
athletics in near future for the promotion of sports activities at UVAS. He also promised to hand over the
building of the Directorate of Breed Improvement to UVAS for establish squash court. He said that sports
activities are necessary not only for the better health of human body but also relax mind from stress. He
said, “I really feel glad to know that UVAS students showing their abilities and winning medals in
different sports at national and international level. He said it is direly needed to provide best training and
resources to students and he is sure these players will proved their abilities and enlighten UVAS name in
the world with their achievements.
In the concluding ceremony, Dr Tariq Aziz Khawaja said that sports are necessary for character building,
enhancing self-confidence and personality grooming. He also lauded the UVAS Sports Board for
arranging such a mega sports event in a befitting manner.
Mr Shahbaz Ahmed Senior said that he was glad to see that UVAS has great talent and it is direly needed
to enhance sports activities in the educational institutions to polish hidden talent.
Mr Khawaja Junaid congratulated all the winners of medals and said that dedication/hard work is the key
to success.
Javed Ali Memon congratulated all the students who actively participated in different competitions and
won positions. He said UVAS will establish state of the art wrestling academy with the financial
assistance of HEC and swimming pool & Resource Center as per international standards for promoting
sports activities in university. At the end of ceremony, Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz presented the vote of
thanks.
The various contests featuring annual sports day included final races of 800, 200, 100 meter for boys and
girls, javelin throw, discuss throw, three leg race, shot-put, relay race, tug of war, long jump, triple jump,
chaati race, martial art presentation/gymnastic show, etc.
Mr Ali Haral from DVM 1 st year and Ms Hamna from Food Science & Human Nutrition were
declared the best athletes of UVAS among male and female categories. UVAS Lifetime
Achievement Award in Sports received by former hockey player and Olympian gold medalist Dr
Tariq Aziz Khawaja.
Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences male team with 90 points won general trophy and female team
Food Science & Human Nutrition earned 88 points won general trophies.
Male DVM 4 th year with 68 points and female Biological Sciences team with earned 54 points won
the general trophies from Ravi Campus.
Prof Dr Tariq Aziz Khawaja along with other dignitaries distributed general trophies, medals, shields and
blazers among the winners of all contests. Earlier, Director Sports Rana Amjad Iqbal shared the
achievements of the UVAS players in various sports competitions held in 2022-23 including volleyball,
table tennis, handball, kabaddi, badminton, karate, wushu, rugby, chess, wrestling, weightlifting and
bodybuilding, etc.
